Kids ages 8-15 are welcome to join us each summer as a camper. If you have a question about your child’s eligibility based on summer birthdays, please contact the camp office.
Campers are under the constant care of our staff. Camp Nubar adheres to New York State Law and the requirements set forth by the American Camp Association (ACA), which require 24-hour supervision by a senior counselor (18 years of age or older) in cabins and all activities. In addition, our Director, Assistant Director, Waterfront Director, Boys’ Head Counselor and Girls’ Head Counselor all oversee the ongoing operations of the Camp. We are proud to maintain a 3:1 camper-to-counselor ratio throughout the summer. Campers are never left unattended.
Furthermore, we take special steps to ensure safety within the context of an active summer camp. Our waterfront program is managed by a certified Water Safety Instructor and certified lifeguards who are on duty at the lake during all waterfront activities.
Camp Nubar’s staff arrives at Camp one week prior to the arrival of the campers. During this time, our counselors undergo rigorous training in First Aid, CPR and other safety drills and health certification. Led by our Director, visiting professionals and members of the Camp Nubar Committee, our staff also participates in sessions on sensitivity training and counseling to fully understand how to care for the welfare of our campers. Our staff understands and is taught to regard the overall well-being of every camper, being sensitive to their safety, emotional health and happiness. Our counselors are constant caregivers and role models and often become lifelong friends with their campers.
Camp Nubar employs a Certified Health Director who resides in the Infirmary and is available 24 hours a day to administer any health-related needs of the Camp. The infirmary is a first-class facility that is fully stocked with necessary medical supplies and contains bedrooms for those children who need extra care. To ensure your child receives the best medical treatment, all parents are required to fill out and submit the Health Form provided in your application packet. We must be alerted of all allergies and medical conditions prior to your child’s arrival at Camp. In the unlikely event that your child requires further medical attention, the nearest hospital and medical offices are only 12 miles away. We will notify you within 24 hours of any illness or serious injury that requires an overnight stay in the infirmary.

Applicants for Senior Counselors (age 18+), Junior Counselors (age 17) and Counselors-In-Training (ages 16) must submit an application form in a timely manner and will be interviewed by members of the Camp Nubar Committee and Head Staff. All staff are expected to be present for the entire duration of the summer season, including pre-camp and post-camp.

This year, campers will have more access to canteen - our camp "store" where campers can get special treats as well as healthy snacks and drinks after dinner. Your camper's canteen fee is included in their registration and there will be no need to send additional money during the session as your camper's account will never run out. We are excited to offer new, fun treats at canteen this summer! Camp apparel will be available for parents to purchase on changeover days and on Open House.
Campers and counselors live together in cabins assigned by age and gender. Girls reside in the “Valley” side of Camp and boys reside on the “Hill”. Cabin assignments are based strictly upon the camper’s age. Please do not make any special requests for campers of different ages (whether or not related) to be put together in the same cabin.
You should call (845) 676-3101 and ask for the Program Coordinator, Assistant Director, or Director. Please indicate that your call is of an urgent nature.
The two phone lines at Camp Nubar must be kept open for emergency and office use only. Please do not call your child except in the case of an emergency. In addition, we believe that telephone calls often intensify feelings of homesickness and disrupt campers’ schedules.
Camp Nubar has partnered with Bunk1 to help you keep in touch and see daily photos. Parents will be able to email messages to campers which will be printed out and hand-delivered to your camper. If you opt to receive a response from your child, you will make this selection in your Bunk1 profile and your child will receive a return stationary to hand-write his/her response. The response will be delivered into the app.
We encourage you to keep in touch with your child the old fashioned way, with letters and postcards from home. Campers love to receive mail and are urged to write home often. Pack pre-addressed and stamped postcards and pens for your child. Address letters and packages to your camper as follows:

Upon arrival at camp, campers will be screened at our infirmary in order to ensure the well-being of all campers. After meeting with our nurse, campers will be screened by our medical team, a lice screening and treatment company that specializes in working with summer camps. If a camper is found to have lice or nits, they can be immediately treated by our medical team at a cost of $325 or more. This cost will be billed to the individual family. Alternatively, parents have the option to bring their child home for treatment and then can return to camp with proof of treatment by a certified lice treatment service.
If a child arrives at camp with extensive lice or nits, at the discretion of the Camp Nubar Committee and Staff, they may not be allowed to immediately enter the cabins and participate in camp activities. AGBU Camp Nubar reserves the right to have campers with extensive lice or nits remain in the infirmary or return home for treatment by a certified lice treatment company. We encourage families to have their child screened at home by a professional for lice before they come to camp.
Parents, friends and prospective families are invited to join our annual Open House which happens once a season. We do not allow visitors during the camp sessions. Please check next summer’s Open House date by clicking here.
Camp Nubar has what we like to call great “camp” food. We offer three nutritious meals each day in our state-of-the-art cafeteria. We employ a well-trained chefs and kitchen staff to prepare all of our meals and provide healthy snacks. In addition, Armenian cuisine is served on special nights. Food is prepared fresh each day. All campers are encouraged to eat a well-balanced diet.

At AGBU Camp Nubar we embrace our Armenian heritage in all of our daily activities. Campers are required to attend an Armenian class every other day where instruction in language, history, culture, song and dance is taught by our energetic counselors. Campers are also encouraged to explore their unique heritage outside the classroom through camp wide events, cooking lessons, daily prayers and church service.
Camp Nubar is proud to welcome visiting clergy throughout the summer to preside over our weekly church services. Campers and staff participate together in the Divine Liturgy..
We find a way to make learning fun and campers and counselors alike leave Camp with a greater attachment to the Armenian community. A true sense of pride is developed as a camper becomes part of the Camp Nubar Family.
